EXTRAORDINARY WOOD AND DESIGN
These extraordinary slabs of Claro Walnut were purchased in Iowa. The tree these slabs were harvested from was so large that it may be entered in the Guinness Book of World Records. The tree was discovered when railway workers were doing maintenance to a section of the rail. Tom was able to secure several choice slabs and bring them back to Wisconsin. The largest slab weighed about 500 pounds when wet, and took four men to move it to the shop and secure it for drying. The slab was later finished drying in a kiln. This slab will become a Wisconsin man's executive desk. The project is now in progress. The remaining slabs were purchased by clients who are building a Prairie Style home in Wisconsin. They have commissioned a series of projects that can be seen in the photographs below. The furnishings designed and built by Tom are one of a kind. They have been hand finished using natural oils to show the incredible color and configuration of the wood. There are a few slabs of this Claro Walnut remaining in stock for purchase. The men arrive to move and secure the largest slab for drying.
Clients have chosen the slabs for commissions and pose next to two slabs that will become the uniquely designed headboard for the Master bedroom.
